There are 12 zones, each with a director who represents the interests of those who elected him/her as well as the best interests of the Canadian Kennel Club. Each director appoints individuals to serve as representatives in various areas of interest, examples of which are Conformation, Obedience, Tracking, Herding, Field, etc. Representatives are volunteers and when we attend obedience trials, sanction matches, meetings etc., we are doing so on a volunteer basis. We do not receive remuneration. Representatives serve 3 ways:
Each senior representative is a member of the council for that particular discipline. Periodically councils meet either in person or via teleconference calls in order to discuss views, opinion, trends etc occurring in their zones. I am the senior representative for Zone 10. Jeff Lunder and Tubby Miller are associate obedience representatives. Some zones have more than one rep and this is the case in Alberta obedience; we have 3 representatives. Since I reside in the Edmonton area, it is my responsibility to serve Edmonton and northern Alberta. Jeff resides in Red Deer and covers Red Deer, north to Edmonton and south to Calgary. Tubby is responsible for Calgary and points south. Together, we work the entire Province of Alberta. We are in constant touch with one another by e mail, phone and occasional face-to-face meetings. Any one of us can discuss current items and provide information and advice. Alberta is a hotbed for obedience and we are blessed with many folks who are talented in training dogs and who possess a passion for the sport. You’ll note we have a “Forum”. You’ll find topics listed that are of importance to folks in Alberta. We want to know your views and will publish on the website as many communications as we can. There will be informal opinion polls conducted once in awhile. It is our hope that through this website, we can better serve obedience fanciers in Alberta. Gin, Tubby and Jeff |
