SECTION 8.16.1 COLLARS OTHER THAN THOSE SPECIFIED IN THESE RULES ARE NOT ALLOWED WITHIN THE VENUE. VIOLATION OF THIS MAY RESULT IN THE REMOVAL OF THE DOG FROM FURTHER COMPETITION AT THAT OBEDIENCE TRIALReactions: From AB-M-1: “I have previously expressed concern regarding this rule for the following reasons: The rule disallows the use of identification collars or attachments containing Identification on a show site. This would include municipal license tags. The current wording also disallows the use of other management or training tools such as head halters or Volhard collars. I believe the purpose of the rule was to ban pinch collars. If the CKC does not pinch collars in the venue, that is what should be stated: There shall be no pinch or prong type collars (or electronic training devices) allowed within the venue” My students have brought up another concern: Obedience trials are often held in conjunction with allbreed shows. This rule indicates within the venue. Does the rule apply to conformation dogs? They are within the venue. Does it also ban the use of some of the tools used in the conformation ring such as the one-piece slip or martingale show leads? I believe the rule will also disallow commercial booths to keep or sell any collar that is not legal in the obedience ring. This would include fancy collars, specially designed collars (i.e. for the sighthounds), head halters, etc."
SECTION 6.1.7 NO BADGES OR CLOTHING WITH CLUB IDENTIFICATION THEREON, SHALL BE WORN OR DISPLAYED BY EXHIBITORS/HANDLERS WHEN EXHIBITING IN THE RING. Reactions: From AB-M-1: “Section 6.1.18 of the 2003 rulebook is identical. However, section 6.1.17 of the 2002 rulebook (and all those previous) states: “NO BADGES, OR CLOTHING WITH CLUB IDENTIFICATION THEREIN SHALL BE WORN OR DISPLAYED BY EXHIBITORS/HANDLERS. NO OTHER MEANS OF IDENTIFICATION MAY BE USED BY AN INDIVIDUAL WHEN EXHIBITING IN THE RING." This is a crucial omission and I find it quite offensive in view of the new rule regarding collars: We cannot bring a dog into a trial venue wearing any identification that will keep him safe, or a municipal license that will avoid a fine and promote responsible pet ownership. However, we can take the dog into the ring wearing clothing that promotes the dog, a kennel, a training school, a dog food company or a financial planner!” I realize that the omission of this line is probably a “glitch” but it is now part of the rules. It needs to be addressed and fixed and the collar needs to be clarified. Many thanks”.
From AB-H- 1: “Virginia, “With all those good ideas, the only change we could get was to reduce the length of the long down - sigh...Somehow that issue seems less important than a variable order of the exercises?”
